Alpilles and Camargue

Alpilles & Camargue

This holiday gives you the chance to explore three distinctively different parts of the region. You will visit the pretty villages of the Alpilles mountains and olive groves, the charming market town of St. Remy and the nearby medieval fortress town of Les Baux. Three nights will be spent near Sainte Maries de la Mer in the southern Camargue including visits to the fascinating Camargue Museum which explains the history of the area and way of life in this unique area, and the mysterious walled city of Aigues Mortes in the salt marshes.

You will also have the opportunity to visit the stunning aqueduct of the Pont du Gard as well as the delightful nearby town of Uzes in the Gard. And to complete the picture of provencal flavours the holiday will of course include recommendations for dining at some of the best restaurants in the area.

Add on extensions

Avignon Extension:The beautiful medieval city of Avignon just demands exploration. A two or three night stay in this historic city is an ideal combination with your countryside walking holiday. See the stunning Papal Palace and the famous bridge over the River Rhone or just wander the atmospheric old streets and explore the many museums and art galleries.

Nimes Extension:Stay for two or three nights in the fascinating city of Nimes is a true southern city belonging to Provence and Languedoc, between the Camargue and the Cevennes, between Spain and Italy. A city firmly at the crossroads with a strongly varied character and with the imprint of Rome overlaid and still very much alive. The Roman sites are not to be missed but include also the Place du Marché with its fountain with the chained crocodile, stroll through the pretty Place d’Assas (good lunch cafes here) and if you wish, visit the Carré d’Art, the modern art museum designed by Norman Foster. All the main sites are within easy walking distance of each other
