Avignon City Stay

Tour and Walk in the Luberon

Our Self Drive and Walk holiday in the Parc Naturel du Luberon is designed to allow you to explore in depth this beautiful area. You will be enchanted by the charming perched villages and delightfully different areas of countryside from gentle rolling hills to breathtaking mountain scenery with stunning vistas. If you are looking for a different way to explore Provence, this is a great way to do it.

Walking on foot means you become part of the varied scenery of Provence - the pine and oak forests, the lavender fields and vineyards, the green rolling hills and wild limestone cliffs, and our visits to the ancient villages of the area really do give you the best of all worlds. Wine tastings, garden visits, peaceful abbeys, picturesque old chateaux and lively markets are also included in this holiday taking you to the heart of the 'real' Provence.

We make bookings for and pre-pay all your hotel accommodation, which will include breakfast each day and dinner on 2 evenings and also lunch one day in a countryside restaurant. We plan the visits and excursions you can include in your itinerary.

We provide you with a Route Book which includes all the detail you need for your holiday - your hotel and meal arrangements, a detailed day by day route planner with road directions, detailed walking notes, details of opening times for the suggested visits and excursions, and of course maps of the local area.

If you have time to spend a slightly longer holiday in Provence we can offer a suggested ‘add on’ to extend your holiday for two nights staying in either the lively university town of Aix en Provence or the historic city of Avignon. An ideal combination at the end or beginning of your countryside holiday. Just let us know your preference and we will be delighted to provide you with a quotation for your extended holiday.

  • 5 nights hotel accommodation in a twin or double room with private facilities, with breakfast each day.
  • Your personal Route Book containing your day by day itinerary complete with maps and directions

The Walks

The walks planned on your holiday are designed as rambles and strolls rather than challenging hikes and are generally around 2 to 3 hours in duration. We give you a choice of one longer walk of around 4 hours 30 minutes on one of the days. Some of the walks include steep inclines and a reasonable level of fitness is required. All the walks are tried and tested (by us!) and full walking notes are provided.

The walks explore all the different aspects of the valley and surrounding mountains - strolls through the vineyards and quiet country lanes, secret valleys scented with lavender, woodlands and forests and mountain tracks with stunning vistas. Good walking shoes or boots are recommended. The times indicated for the walks are actual walking times.

Your Route Book

Your Route Book will be at your hotel for your arrival. It includes all the detail you need for your holiday - your hotel and meal arrangements, tickets for your excursions, a street map of Avignon & suggestions for your free time in the city. And, should you have any need of additional assistance during your stay, our local office is just a phone call away.

Add on extensions

Aix en Provence Extension. Stay for two or three nights in the lovely old city of Aix. Stroll the Cours Mirabeau with its lively brasseries and cafes, explore the medieval town centre with its interesting art galleries associated with the painter Cezanne, and perhaps include a day trip to the nearby picturesque Mediterranean fishing village of Cassis.

Avignon Extension. The beautiful medieval city of Avignon just demands exploration. A two or three night stay in this historic city is an ideal combination with your countryside walking holiday. See the stunning Papal Palace and the famous bridge over the River Rhone or just wander the atmospheric old streets and explore the many museums and art galleries.
